AHMEDABAD: Gujarat policeman N K Amin, accused of playing a role in the disposal of body of Kausar Bi, wife of fake encounter victim Shorabhuddin Sheikh, surrendered before a court on Thursday.

Additional Sessions Judge P P Bhatt has sent him Amin, Deputy Superintendent of Police, to judicial custody till further orders.

Amin's anticipatory bail granted by a lower court was cancelled by the Supreme Court on August 13.

Bhatt would take up hearing on the bail application of Amin on Friday.

Amin is one of the 13 police officers, whose name appeared in the chargesheet filed in the metropolitan court by Gujarat CID (Crime) investigating the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin and murder of his wife Kausarbi.

The DySp, formerly with the CID (Crime), was transferred to Vadodara (Rural) Police on July 31 after criticism in the Supreme Court over his alleged role in the Kausarbi body disposal.

Following direction from the apex Court, the Gujarat government filed a Special Leave Petition seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Amin by a lower court in Ahmedabad.

Though Amin was not part of the Anti-Terrorist Squad led by suspended DIG D G Vanzara, who allegedly executed the fake encounter, he was accused of helping the latter in disposing of the body of Kausarbi. Amin was serving in the city crime branch at that time.

In the fake encounter case, the CID (Crime) had arrested three IPS officers, including Vanzara, and 10 other police personnel both from Gujarat and neighbouring Rajasthan.
