ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged India to release 62 of its nationals in Indian jails after New Delhi freed 72 other prisoners from the Islamic nation to mark
India's sixtieth Independence day.
 
Interior Ministry spokesperson Javed Iqbal Cheema urged India to release the 62 prisoners rejecting New Delhi's claim that the Pakistani prisoners were not freed because Islamabad had failed to verify their nationality.
 
Cheema welcomed the release of 72 Pakistani prisoners by the Indian government and hoped that the other 62 prisoners will be set free soon.
 
Pakistan and India had announced to release more than 200 prisoners ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the two South Asian country.
 
India freed 72 Pakistani prisoners, including 48 fishermen on Tuesday. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that New Delhi did not free 62 other prisoners despite its earlier promise.
 
Pakistan freed 134 Indian prisoners, including 100 fishermen, on August 13.
