LONDON: The body of Kafeel Ahmed, an engineer from Bangalore who died of burns sustained during the botched attack on the Glasgow airport, could be sent to India as early as next week.

The mother of the 27-year-old Kafeel was en route to Glasgow, where she is expected to be handed her son's remains after a post-mortem examination, sources said on Saturday.

The Crown Office said the body could be released to Kafeel's kin within days.

Kafeel suffered extensive burn injuries during the failed attack in June and never retained consciousness. He died on Thursday last after battling for life for a month.

The other man arrested in the incident, Bilal Abdullah, an Iraqi doctor, has been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions. Kafeel's 26-year-old brother Sabeel Ahmed has also been arrested and charged with withholding information that could have prevented a terror attack.
