MUMBAI: The demand for in toto implementation of Srikrishna Commission Report on the communal riots in 1992-93 is gaining ground.

After Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh instructed Director General of Police PS Pasricha and Mumbai Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Jadhav to constitute a committee to identify alleged lapses in implementation of the commission’s report and correct them, Mumbai Police has swung into action.

However, there is a section within the Congress and also in the city police that believes this is another token attempt.

Earlier, when the commission had instructed the police to inquire into the matter, they did not produce any evidence against police officers who faced charges.

This is said to be because some of the officers like the then DCP and now Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) KL Bishnoi who were accused of biased behaviour are now holding important positions in the force.
