NEW DELHI: The key eyewitness in the high-profile BMW hit-and-run case has done it again, for the seventh time now.

Sunil Kulkarni, who is the only remaining eyewitness in the case, told a city court on Thursday that he was not sure if Sanjeev Nanda, the main accused, was present in the black BMW or not.

“I am not sure if Sanjeev Nanda was in the car or not. I had seen a man with similar physique,” he told the court while recording his statement in the Patiala House court.

Kulkarni had earlier pointed fingers on Sanjeev Nanda, the grandson of former naval chief SM Nanda, in the courtroom stating that one of the accused was wearing a white shirt and is present in the court.  This is not the first time that Kulkarni has changed his statement.

The recent change in the statement would give a new lease of life to Sanjeev Nanda as the charges against him would not have much relevance after Kulkarni’s change in stand.

The Mumbai based businessman is the only remaining eyewitness in the case as the other two  have already changed their stand and had told the court that it was a truck that killed five people, including policemen and not a black BMW car.

Because of the inconsistency in the statements of Kulkarni, the Delhi Police had earlier dropped him from being their main eyewitness. but the court later asked Delhi police to include his name.
