NEW DELHI: In a bid to check entry of "unwanted" persons to the Intensive Care Units in hospitals, Delhi government is in the process of installing closed circuit TVs in the premises.

State Principal Health Secretary D S Negi told that CCTVs are being installed at ICUs in the hospitals to ensure transparency and security.

"There have been cases where relatives of the patients admitted in ICUs try to intrude in this zone despite objections from guards and doctors on the duty," Negi said.

At times guards or the doctors on duty also allow persistent relatives to enter the ICU.

Many of our hospitals such as Deen Dayal Upadhaya and GTB hospital in East Delhi have already installed CCTVs at various strategic locations in the hospitals for security reasons, the Health Secretary said.

However, now we are extending the services to the ICUs as well for better administration as they will be under the direct control of the Head of the Departments, he added.

Apart from keeping a check on "intruders", the CCTVs can also be used to monitor the working of the junior doctors who are sometimes found "wanting" in their duties, he said.

"Also the films can be later used in the cases where there are allegations from the patient's relatives of any negligence in the treatment," he said.
