INDORE: The BJP on Wednesday asked the government to immediately suspend confidence-building measures with Pakistan, saying the situation in the neighbouring country was "very disturbing".

"Terrorists were hiding right under the nose of General Pervez Musharraf, and that too in Islamabad. Had they not attacked Musharraf's plane with a rocket launcher, he would not have taken such an extreme step against them," BJP president Rajnath Singh said, referring to the crackdown on militants holed up in Islamabad's Lal Masjid.

"The situation in Pakistan in not normal. It is very disturbing. Despite the CBMs, infiltration into India from across the border is continuing.

"In view of all these developments, the BJP demands the immediate suspension of the CBM process," he told reporters here.

There is a need for keeping a vigilant eye on the activities in Pakistan, Singh asserted.

He also appealed to the world community not to look at Indians living abroad, especially doctors, with suspicion in view of alleged Indian links to the terror attack on Glasgow airport.

On the domestic front, Singh criticised the Congress-led Central government for repealing the anti-terror law POTA.

"The law enacted by the NDA government to deal with terrorism was repealed by the UPA government. The situation is such that there is no effective law in the country to deal with the menace," he said.

Singh arrived here last night to take part in the concluding session of a two-day meeting here of BJP MLAs and MPs.
