NEW DELHI/BANGALORE: With an Indian doctor being held in Brisbane in connection with the failed UK terror plot, an Australian police officer is here to investigate his role and trace his accomplices, if any.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer has met senior Indian intelligence officials and is coordinating with the Karnataka police in connection with the investigation against Mohd Haneef of Bangalore, sources said here on Tuesday.

"The AFP agent is here as part of investigations," an Australian Embassy official told but refused to identify him or his rank.

The AFP agent is liaising with local authorities, the embassy official said but did not specify whom he had met or would be meeting.

27-year-old Haneef was held at the Brisbane airport about a week ago when he was proceeding to leave for home.

Though no charges have been filed against him, he has since been in detention which has been extended till tomorrow.

Haneef is suspected to be involved in the plot to carry out bomb attacks in London and Glasgow about 10 days back,

Asked how long the agent would be in India, the embassy official said it was difficult to spell out as "investigations are still unclear".

In Canberra, Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said "I welcome the cooperation that has been provided to the AFP (by the Indian government)."
