A mere 0.5% drop in cut-off percentage disappoints students

Students hopeful of getting into the second merit list for admissions to FYJC were disappointed as most city colleges observed drop percentages as low as 0.5 percent.

Some colleges showcased percentages coming down by 1-2 per cent. Meanwhile, chaos prevailed in colleges on Wednesday over the State School Education department’s directive to conduct admissions for the first merit list and the announcement of the second merit list on the same day.

Unable to prepare the second merit list simultaneously with the admissions, some colleges had postponed the announcement of the second merit list for today. “There were long queues of students seeking admissions to FYJC till late evening on Wednesday, thus our college staff could not manage the work on preparing the second merit list simultaneously,” said a principal from a city college.

After the torrential rains on Saturday, the State School Education department had extended the admission dates with the first merit list scheduled on July 3 instead of July 2, while the date for the announcement of the second merit list was kept the same.

Hassled, colleges blamed the department for preparing a “messy schedule” for FYJC. For few colleges, the second merit list was declared as late as 8.00pm.
