Expect changes in Sri Lanka Cricket, says minister

COLOMBO: The interim committee running Sri Lankan cricket is likely to see a shake-up, the country's sports minister said on Wednesday.

"We are having a look at the present composition of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee", sports minister Gamini Lokuge told.

The minister said it was too early to say if the present committee, comprising five persons, will be reduced or if any change would be made at the top.

The present committee, headed by businessman Jayantha Dharmadasa, has been in office since March 2005 following a decision by Lokuge's predecessor to dismiss the democratically elected incumbent administration.

Lokuge said he preferred to hold elections for SLC office-bearers but is hampered from doing so due to a legal wrangle with pending lawsuits filed by rival factions.

Sri Lankan sports ministers have at different times since 1998 dissolved cricket administrations and entrusted interim committees to run the cash rich governing body.
