BANGALORE: Sabeel Ahmed, the Indian doctor detained in Liverpool in connection with the foiled car bombings in London and Glasgow, studied with Mohammed Haneef, who is in custody in Australia, at Dr B R Ambedkar College here, a university official said on Wednesday.

"Ahmed was a year junior to Haneef and passed out of the college in 2004," Sachitananda, registrar of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, to which Ambedkar College is affiliated, told.

Ahmed had secured a free seat in the medical college, Sachitananda said.

He hailed from a family of doctors and both his parents are in the medical field. He lived at Banashankari in Bangalore.

Ahmed took two years to complete the first year of MBBS. He took another two years to complete his second year of the course. However, he completed his final year in one attempt, the registrar said.

Ahmed, who was born on April 21, 1981, secured 72.6 per cent in Pre-University, according to records.

Haneef was detained at Brisbane in Australia in connection with the foiled terror attacks in Britain. Both Ahmed and Haneef had worked together in Halton Hospital in Cheshire in 2005.
