Following the uproar over alleged reports that the Laxmi Education Society was keen on closing down their junior college courses at two institutions — MVLU College of Arts, Science and Commerce and Chinai College of Commerce —  trustees of the Society clarified that they have no plans to commercialise the college buildings.

Trustees added that none of the courses affiliated to the University of Mumbai will be closed down and neither will the college buildings be demolished. They further stated that no vacant space was being hired out.

Based in Andheri, the MVLU and Chinai Colleges run junior colleges and conduct degree and professional courses.

On Monday, activists attached to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) allegedly pelted stones, causing damage to the educational trust’s office in south Mumbai following reports of the decision to shut down the two junior colleges. Even supporters of Shiv Sena’s Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena protested against reports of the trust’s  decision.
