GLASGOW: Bomb disposal experts on Tuesday carried out a controlled explosion of a vehicle parked near a mosque in Glasgow, hours before the one-off ODI between India and Pakistan to raise funds for Prince Charles' charity.

"Police would wish to emphasise that there is nothing to suggest any connection between the mosque and the events over the last few days," a spokeswoman for Strathclyde police said.

On Saturday, two men rammed a blazing car into the passenger terminal of Glasgow's airport in an attack linked to a foiled double car bombing in London the day before.

The experts were called during the night to the mosque in Pollokshields, a Glasgow suburb, and carried out a controlled explosion on the vehicle at around 5:00 am (0400 GMT).

The area around the mosque was closed off, but local residents were not evacuated, police said.

Asked about the security for the Indo-Pak tie on Tuesday, Cricket Scotland Chief Executive Roddy Smith had said, "We are very comfortable with the security.

Security was always going to be tight and will be tomorrow (Tuesday). The police have been involved for five months in terms of planning the event. Everyone wants the event to go ahead smoothly and I'm sure we can control every situation, apart from the weather."
