NEW DELHI: Tommy Hilfiger has lined up major expansion plans in India which includes opening up of more retail stores and experimenting with new formats to market its range of apparels and accessories in the country.

"We have just completed phase I of our expansion and would be undertaking phase II in a rapid expansion mode.  Currently we have nine exclusive stores in seven cities and by the end of this year we would make it to 20 stores in nine cities," Tommy Hilfiger India CEO Shailesh Chaturvedi told on the sidelines of a retail conference.

Tommy Hilfiger entered India three years ago and has a wide range of apparel for men, women and children besides selling a large range of accessories.

The company would open one store each in Ahemdabad and Pune but its accessories are available across 200 multi-brand outlets (MBO) in the country.

He, however, did not divulge any financial details of the proposed expansion but said that the second phase of expansion would involve major investments by the company.

The company would also be experimenting with its store formats in the second phase of expansion and would be introducing the first departmental store format in line with the international design for such stores.

"Tommy Hilfiger would experiment with a new format in MBOs where it would have a brand space managed and run by the company," Chaturvedi said.

The company is also opening factory outlets in select cities where it would not sell its apparels through its exclusive stores. It will also scale up its distribution activities specially in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru to be followed by Pune and Hyderabad.
