MUMBAI: Continuing with its streak of acquisitions in the global agrochemicals sector, United Phosphorus Ltd (UPL), the domestic agrochemicals multi-national firm on Wednesday acquired two more agro-chemical DuPont brands — Supertin and Vendex.

This is the Indian company’s seventh acquisition in two years and the first for the current fiscal. United Phosphorus is touted as the third-largest generic agro-chemicals company in the world.

The two products will strengthen UPL’s position in the fruit, nut, vegetable and row crop markets, which was significantly enhanced in 2006 with the acquisition of Cerexagri. It has had a long-standing marketing alliance with DuPont on TPTH.

The annualised revenues from the two products are expected to earn annual revenues to the tune of Rs 40 crore, for the Indian company. Triphenyltin hydroxide (supertin) is a contact fungicide used mainly on potatoes, sugar beets and pecans. Fenbutatin-oxide (Vendex) is one of the largest tin acaricide used on various crops such as citrus and pome fruit.

UPL, under this agreement, said its subsidiaries throughout the world will be selling triphenyltin hydroxide and fenbutatin-oxide and its formulations as of October 1, 2007. Until then, DuPont will be acting as agent for UPL and its subsidiaries.

UPL is engaged in research, manufacturing and distribution of agrochemicals and speciality chemicals across the globe. UPL has been on an aggressive inorganic mode, having signed up deals with global agro-chemicals giants such as Bayer earlier when it acquired three agro-chemical products from the German giant.
