Jeeva was shooting his latest movie Dham Dhoom in Russia

Cameraman-turned-director Jeeva, 44, has died of heart attack in Russia, where he was shooting his latest movie Dham Dhoom. A resident of Chennai, he died in Moscow early Tuesday morning.

Jeeva shot into fame in Bollywood through his cinematography in films like Hulchul, Bhaagam Bhag, Hera Pheri.

It is learnt that he complained of uneasiness and packed up the schedule early.

“Jeeva had a peaceful sleep in the night. In the morning, he again complained of uneasiness.  He went to one of his assistant’s room and asked for a Gelusil. Even before taking the tablet, he succumbed,” a production source said from Moscow.

Jeeva began his career as an assistant to PC Sreeram, before becoming a director. His Tamil films — 12 B, Ullam Kaetkumae, and Unnale Unnale —  were unique in nature and targeted educated youth.

The film industry is in a state of shock.  Director Priyadarshan, who worked with Jeeva in many films, said he could not believe the news.

“I could not believe it. He was a teetotaler and a strict vegetarian. He may be 44, but he looks just around 30-32. Highly dedicated, he is one of the best I have worked with. He would always be on his toes on the sets. He called me up three days ago and talked about his new film,” he said. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
