NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Tuesday turned philosophical in the company of yoga guru Swami Ramdav, saying life was akin to a railway platform and each person has to travel by the next train to his destination.

"Life is nothing but a mass hanging by a frail string... each one of us who has arrived here has to leave by the next train to his destination. This world is nothing but a platform like the ones in New Delhi railway station," Yadav told a book launch function here.

Sitting beside Ramdev, Yadav turned critical of life in big cities, saying: "Nature knew in advance that each one of us would be full of lifestyle diseases and hence we have Delhi full of 'jamun' trees. Have a stomach-full of jamuns and be healthy.

"The neem trees in cities are inhabited by goddess Durga," he said.

He also spelt out a list of do's and don'ts for the audience, saying spices at home should be freshly prepared and people should avoid using pressure cookers.

"The stomach is a boiler and yoga is a exercise meant to vent the steam inside," he said.

Lalu, who recently visited the pilgrimage site of Badrinath with his family, expressed admiration for yoga and said Ramdev's prescription was a boon for the downtrodden.

"Yoga is a secret to change life from 'disorder to in-order' without much pain and expenditure," he said.

Talking about practises in his village, Lalu said, "In our village if one had a cut or a wound, the best antiseptic readily available was urine or lime-paste."

He also had some advice for Ramdev, saying the guru should be careful not to reveal all the secrets of his prescriptions.

"I always advise Ramdevji to only employ trustworthy people in his laboratory or else someone can leak out the formulas and make money," he said.

"You should not be demoralised by criticism from some quarters. With success, critics are sure to be around," he said, referring to some recent controversies surrounding Ramdev.

Yadav released the book "Yoga in Synergy with Science", which illustrates the work and results of Ramdev's yoga treatments.
