A chief minister and a goddess

BJP leader Jaswant Singh’s wife Sheetal Kanwar has lodged a police complaint against a party MLA for releasing a poster portraying Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje as a goddess and her ministerial colleagues as attendant deities. Kanwar said the poster hurt her religious sentiments.

The BJP expressed its disapproval. Vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said there was no space in the party for “the worship of individuals”. The poster, released on April 15 to mark three years of BJP rule in Rajasthan, depicts senior leaders AB Vajpayee, LK Advani and Rajnath Singh as the Trinity — Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.
