Series of explosions rock Nepal city, one injured

KATHMANDU: An armed group based in Nepal's Terai region exploded a number of bombs in southern Janakpur city, injuring one woman.

Police said between 9 and 10 pm last night, sounds of explosions were heard in bus park, Janaki chowk, campus area, Ladbela, and Pesiya Bazaar in the city.

The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-Jwala Singh) claimed responsibility for the blasts. Ranjan Mukti, the group's central member, told a local radio that it was to protest the visit by CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, who was in the city to attend a training programme for party cadres.

A woman was injured in the explosion and she was rushed to the hospital, police said.
