MUMBAI: New Delhi-based enterprise data and network services provider Tulip IT Services is close to bagging a couple of rural e-governance projects from state governments.

Sources said the order size of each project could be in range of Rs 100-150 crore considering that e-governance is being promoted in a big way.

The firm has been aggressively targeting government tenders to boost growth in this segment. State governments plan to spend Rs 3,334 crore over five years on rural connectivity to promote e-governance.

Earlier, Tulip had won Haryana government’s contract under the State-Wise Area Network (SWAN) project. Apart from Haryana, several other states including Maharashtra, Punjab, and West Bengal have floated tenders for setting up SWANs.

Lt Col Bedi, chairman and managing director, Tulip IT Services, told DNA Money, “I cannot comment anything about the SWAN orders. What I can say at this stage is that Tulip is very aggressively targeting government tenders. These projects may be in range of Rs 80-150 crore.”

Tulip, which today covers 800 cities, is now targeting rural areas and smaller towns for network coverage, he added. The firm seeks to leverage its ability to provide integrated services as it has expertise in both connectivity and network hardware required for it. Tulip at present focuses on the data connectivity business where margins are 35% as against network integration business where it is 5-6%.

Tulip plans to launch data centres in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. The move will enable customers to host their servers and network equipment, which will ensure ready connectivity to all leading services providers. With this, Tulip targets to become a leading player in managed data services to businesses.
