An art gallery in Fort area showing Jagannath Panda’s ‘Nothing is Solid’ — a collection of paintings and sculptures that reconcile fundamental dichotomies in our values — on Thursday saw artists and connoisseurs voicing their protests against the manhandling and arrest of Chandramohan, an art student of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, and the self-imposed exile of the master, MF Husain.
“We are shamelessly late in speaking out about our support for Husain. Which other artist has done the kind and amount of work he has for the Indian art scene?” demanded a livid Kekoo Gandhy, former owner of Chemould Art Gallery. “Husain is not alone in his exile. He has roused the artist community.”

The rule of the law has died in Gujarat. They attack artists who they think won’t affect their votes,” said Hoskote.
The university VC refused to lodge a complaint with the police against Neeraj Jain, the politician who engineered the episode.
The protest meet also saw the launch of a committee, which would raise funds to provide legal help to Chandramohan and later, fight for artists’ cause against communal and moral policing. Funds for it were collected by the protestors.
