PM to release feature film on Ambedkar

Replying to a debate on the demand for grants for his department, he said the film had been produced by the National Film Development Council (NFDC).

CHENNAI: A feature film on Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, will be released soon at a function presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tamil Nadu information and publicity Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi told the Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a debate on the demand for grants for his department, he said the film had been produced by the National Film Development Council (NFDC). Efforts were on to dub the film in all Indian languages.

He said the Tamil Nadu Government had granted Rs 10 lakh to dub the movie in Tamil.

Stating that the NFDC had informed the Government that the film would hit the screen soon, Ilamvazhuthi said the all India release of the film would be launched by the Prime Minister.

He also pointed out that the government, which provided a Rs 99 lakh grant to produce a film on social reformer Periyar E V Ramasamy, had also given tax exemption for the film.

Earlier, participating in the debate, V P Kalairajan (AIADMK) wanted to know when the much-waited film on Dr Ambedkar would be released.
