IIM-A offers admission to students

The IIMA received formal communication from the HRD ministry in the afternoon which gave them a go-ahead to start the admission process.

AHMEDABAD: The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) on Friday began offering admission to students as per last year's norm in accordance with the directive of union Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry.

Offers of admission were given to students including the SC/ST and handicapped quota, IIMA sources said.

The IIMA received formal communication from the HRD ministry in the afternoon which gave them a go-ahead to start the admission process.

Against, 250 seats, a total of 239 offers are being made to candidates belonging to general, SC, ST and handicapped candidates, they said.

In addition to 239 firm offers, another 52 candidates have been put on the waiting list in ranked (category wise) order. The wait-list candidates would be offered admission strictly as per the rank in case the candidates who have been made firm offers decline them, the sources added.

The numbers of offers being made now for PGP 2007-09 batch is less than 250 on account of their inability to fill the seats reg to ST category, in full, the sources said.

Depending on future directive of the HRD ministry with regard to implementation of OBC reservation, IIM-A will offer admission for up to 30 additional seats, if required at a late date, they added.
