Shiv Sena has lost none of it “love” for Narayan Rane. It’s the his 55th birthday on Tuesday and the Sena is ready to “rock the party”.

Guess what the birthday present would be? Rane’s former colleagues, along with coalition partner BJP, have sought an audience with the Governor for his ouster from the state cabinet.

While Rane’s supporters were busy putting up posters all over the city announcing his birthday, opposition members in both houses of the state legislature cornered the minister on Monday. They took pot shots at Rane for police registering a complaint against him for allegedly assaulting Sena activists at an poll rally in Katol on Saturday.

“We are going to meet the governor on Tuesday, demanding the ouster of Rane from the state cabinet in the backdrop of the criminal case filed against him and the alleged desecration of a Shivaji Maharaj portrait at Katol,” Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam told news persons in Vidhan Bhavan.

“I have also submitted the same memorandum to the chief minister and deputy chief minister,” he added. “We will disrupt the proceedings of the house and till our demands are met and may even take to the streets.”

Kadam said that the CD of the roadshow, in which Rane was allegedly seen inciting his followers to attack Sena workers, had been submitted to the Speaker. Home Minister RR Patil ordered SP Nagpur (rural) Yashasvi Yadav to look into the matter personally. He assured the Sena leaders that no one was above law.

Kadam said criminal cases had been filed against Narayan Rane and Subodh Mohite following the April 7 incident. “Such a goon should not be allowed to be a part of the state government. He should not even sit in the House. A person who has no respect for Shivaji Maharaj, has no right to live in this state,” Kadam said, demanding the ouster and arrest of the Revenue Minister. Kadam said that if the demand for action against Rane was not heeded, Sena-BJP would ask the President to intervene.
