The State Government proposes to put in place reward systems for people exposing medicine scams and the people involved in the business.

Sanjay Dutt and Major Sudhir Sawant also raised questions about two cases of seizure of bogus medicines and a scam in Tata Hospital. The relatives of a patient who passed away in October and their friends were behind the scam worth Rs76.9 lakh.

“Of the eight accused, seven have been arrested and Rs1 lakh recovered from them. If necessary, the property of the accused will be attached,” Sidharam Mhetre, Minister of State for Home told the House.

In another case of seizure of bogus medicines in Worli in January, government announced the suspension of the distributor’s licence. “Food and Drugs Administration had raided Dr Said Harbal Medical Center in Worli and seized the stock.

One drug in the stock was found unauthorised and hence the licence of the distributor was suspended,” said Rajesh Tope, Minister of State for General Administration.

Similar case of seizer of duplicate medicines in January 2007 at Goregaon, medicines worth Rs 1.73 was seized. House, through a written answer, was informed that 4 accused are arrested in the case. However, Shrikant Joshi, a member of the Council demanded reward system to curb misappropriation on large scale. Tope accepted the demand and assured with the endeavours in the direction.
