LUCKNOW: BJP leader and former deputy mayor Abhay Seth and ex-Corporator Ashok Mishra were arrested here in a 13-year-old murder case.

Following a tip off, the two were arrested from separate hospitals on Wednesday where they claimed they were undergoing treatment, police said on Thursday.

Seth and Mishra are accused of murdering one Gopal Mishra in 1994 with the help of the police. A probe revealed that Gopal was gunned down by the police at the behest of the two.

Police had to table a compliance report on Thursday before a city court which had ordered attaching of their properties as the two were evading arrest.

Three constables allegedly involved in the murder were arrested earlier.

Seth had been the deputy mayor of the city and is said to have contacts with the senior party leaders. His presence on stage with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during an election meeting of local bodies elections last year had led to a controversy with the party later claiming that it was not aware of his alleged criminal antecedents.
