The heat wave sweeping Delhi since the last week finally abated on Monday with the Northwesterly winds providing Delhiites some relief from the heat.

The Northwesterlies led to a drop in the maximum temperature in Delhi to 33.1 Degrees Celsius, down from an astronomical 39.1 Degree C on Saturday. Though the minimum rose to 21.9 Degree C, the drop in maximum temperature brought some very welcome relief to the people.

With weathermen forecasting further prevalence of the winds over north-west India, there is likely to be a further drop in day temperatures in the capital and other parts of north-west India as well, in the coming days.

“Strong Northwesterly winds are likely to prevail over many parts of north-west India over the next few days. Consequently day temperatures are likely to fall by two to three Degrees C over the region during the next 48 hours,” the Meteorological Department said.

A sunny day has been forecast by the met department in Delhi tomorrow with the possibility of strong surface winds. The maximum temperature is likely to stay constant at around 33 Degree C.

Delhiites have been reeling under a scorching heat wave for the last four to five days with the mercury rising sharply to 39.1 Degree Celsius on Saturday, a full six degrees above the normal temperature for this time of the year.
