Suspended sub-inspector Sachin Vaze, who was last week pinned by the state CID for being responsible for the ‘disappearance’ of the Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Yunus, said he is being framed before the Bombay High Court on Thursday.

Vaze’s lawyer Vaibhav Bagade told the court that Vaze had received an anonymous letter stating that some CID officers were “manufacturing evidence against him”. Bagade alleged that certain high ranking police officers were framing Vaze in the case. Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice AV Mohta asked Vaze to file an affidavit regarding the allegations against senior police officers.

Though no names were mentioned before the court, Vaze while speaking to reporters outside the court alleged that Director General of Police PS Pasricha, SP CID Dilip Bhujbal and Additional SP CID Jaffer Bhoy were conspiring against him. Khwaja Yunus, an accused in the 2002 Ghatkopar blast, had disappeared in 2003 after being arrested. While the police maintained that he escaped from custody, Yunus’ parents alleged that he had been tortured to death by the police.

The CID, which is probing Yunus’ alleged custodial death, had last week submitted a proposal to prosecute Vaze and three other constables. The HC had directed the CID to complete its investigation in two months.

Meanwhile, lawyer Ayaz Khan approached the HC on behalf of two persons (identity withheld), who have alleged that the CID had tried to force them to give false evidence against Vaze and others.

The affidavits, copies of which are with DNA, state that they were approached by a CID official, who offered to pay them Rs5 lakh each if they agreed to make a statement before the HC that they witnessed the killing by police officers and the dead body being dumped in Alibaug.

The court, however, refused to take cognizance of the two affidavits and instead asked Khan to file an intervention application. The HC will now hear this matter along with the issue of granting interim compensation to Yunus’ parents on March 13.
