SRINAGAR: Beware love birds! Moral police is on a prowl in Kashmir this valentine day.

Moral cops of Dukhtaran-e-Milat and Forum against Social Evil (FASE) have once again become active in Kashmir to the discomfort of love birds. From greeting cards to mobile phones, everything has been dubbed as tools of “immorality”.

“We warn the youth against participating in any programme relating to Valentine’s Day in Kashmir. We will definitely take action if we found anybody taking part in immoral programmes on February 14,” a FASE spokesman said in a statement.

Even shopkeepers selling greeting cards and mobile phone companies are on the watch list of the moral police here. “The shops selling greeting cards should desist from this activity because it tantamount to spreading immorality. Mobile companies do brisk business by encouraging youth to send text messages on Valentine Day which is very shocking trend,” the FASE spokesman added.

Veiled women volunteers of Dukhataran-e-Milat (DeM) have already formed teams to raid the shops and seize the Valentine’s Day greeting cards. “We have already seized some Valentine’s Day cards from the shops in Lal Chowk area. Our team was patrolling the civil lines area for three hours this morning. And this campaign will continue till February 14,” Aisiya Andrabi, DeM supremo, told DNA.

She also warned youth against celebrating the Valentine’s Day in the valley. “It is totally Un-Islamic and we cannot allow this happen. We will do everything to prevent people from spreading obscenity and immorality in the name of Valentine’s Day on February 14,” said Aisiya.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Syed Afad ul Mujtaba said they would continue to do normal policing on February 14. “No special arrangement has been made but we will continue to do normal policing and safeguard the life and property of the people,” he said.

On January 18, the police arrested 12 activists of FASE including six women of DeM after they ransacked a cyber café in down town city claiming that it was being used for “immoral activities”. Those arrested include Aisiya who were later released on bail.
