NEW DELHI: A woman, who plotted the abduction and murder of her 17-year-old daughter, and her paramour were convicted by a Delhi Court on Monday.

Terming the offence as 'reprehensible', Additional Sessions Judge Rajender Kumar held one Gita Rani and her paramour Satish guilty of abducting and murdering former's daughter Aarti who did not like their illicit relationship.

The court held the duo guilty under various sections including 302 (murder), 363 (abduction), 201 (tampering with evidence) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The argument on quantum of punishment, which may range from life imprisonment to death penalty, would be advanced on Tuesday.

The Court, however, acquitted two other accused from the case for want of evidence.

Convict Rani, who had been exonerated by courts in five other criminal cases including that of the murder case of her husband Mamchand, was held guilty on the basis of her daughter's 'dying declaration', revealing her comlicity, which was recorded at a hospital in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Deceased Aarti, a resident of Dilshad colony in East Delhi had lodged all the five criminal cases against her mother.

Satish and victim's mother hatched the conspiracy to eliminate her as she was the sole heir of her father's property, the chargesheet had said.

On the evening of May 27, 2001, the accused asked the victim to accompany them to Aligargh. On their way, they stopped at a roadside motel where she was drugged.

Later, victim Aarti was taken to a deserted place on the highway where the accused stabbed her, poured acid on her face and threw her away in a canal thinking she had died.

Next day, the victim, who was alive, asked for help and later, she was taken to a hospital at Aligarh where she recorded her statement, indicting her mother and her lover.

She succumbed to her injuries on June 28, 2001, nearly a month after the incident.

Relying on the dying declaration of the victim, the court held the duo guilty of her kidnapping and murder.
