SRINAGAR: Thirty-year-old Muneera Begum cannot believe that the cops can be so cruel that they can kill her innocent husband by branding him a militant just for few thousand rupees.

For more than one month she has been going from pillar to post to search her husband Abdul Rehman Padder who went missing in custody on December 8. All hopes were dashed on Sunday when she was told that her husband was killed by the police for getting Rs One lakh award. Welcome to the valley of death, where life is worth few thousands rupees and the police is a contract killer.

A police team led by senior superintendent of police (SSP) branded Padder as a hardcore Pakistani militant Abu Hafiz and Rs 1.2 lakh was claimed as reward money for eliminating the “dreaded terrorist”.

“Investigation revealed that Padder was in possession of a mobile telephone which was being used by Rashid Wagay and it was given to him by assistant sub inspector Farooq Ahmad Gudoo who is presently posted in special operation group (SOG) Genderbal”, J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad said in the assembly.

Azad said Gudoo and constable driver Farooq Ahmed Padder have been arrested while DySP (Ops) Ganderbal and SSP Ganderbal H.S.Parihar have been attached in the office of IGP Kashmir Zone S.M.Sahai. The police have taken the case seriously and indicted the guilty men from their own force.

“If any security person found guilty of killing any innocent for personal reasons like promotion, rewards or appeasement to bosses, he would not be spared in any case as no body is above the law,” Azad said. The case has been entrusted to Farooq Ahmad, DIG Central Kashmir Range for investigation. “We are collecting evidence and the investigation will take some time”, he said.

Earlier the issued rocked the assembly as the opposition, National Conference, called on the CM to make his position clear.
