A 15-year-old girl was brutally murdered by an acquaintance near the Ayappa Temple at Saki Naka on Tuesday evening. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the killer.

Sundari Brijmani Tripathi, a resident of Yadav Nagar, was a Class X student at the Shivam Vidya Mandir. She was on her way to attend a tuition class at Vivek Tutorials on Khairani Road around 4.30pm when accused, Chinnu Morya, 22, who works at a dispensary at Yadav Nagar, took her in a bylane near the temple and slit her throat with a knife.

Some passers-by rushed Sundari to Rajawadi Hospital where she was declared dead before arrival. The police have recovered a knife and some of the victim’s photographs from an album at Morya’s residence.

Bipin Bihari, additional commissioner of police (West Region), said, “Morya knew the deceased, and it seemed a one-sided affair gone horribly wrong.”

Sundari’s family was in a state of shock on Tuesday night. “I had come to Mumbai from Lucknow a few days ago to meet my family,” said Sundari’s sister, Anjali Shukla, 26. “I just can’t believe my sister is gone.”
