HCC has entered into a management agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts International to manage two hotels at its ambitious Lavasa lake-city project.
MUMBAI: Real estate major Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has entered into a management agreement with a yet another global hospitality chain, Starwood Hotels & Resorts International, to manage two hotels at its ambitious Lavasa lake-city project on the backwaters of Warasgaon Dam in Pune.
Though the two players have still not finalised the brands to be extended, company officials said both hotels will sport the latter’s upscale brands.
Spread across five acres, the first of the two properties is a 250-room luxury hotel with a 150,000 square feet convention centre to be developed by HCC in technical collaboration with Starwood.
The other one is a 250-room resort, spread across about eight acres along the picturesque river waterfront.
According to Nicholas Bashkiroff, chief executive officer, Lavasa, the company’s vision is to develop the place as a destination for both business and leisure.
HCC kicked off its hospitality plans by signing a management agreement with ITC Hotels subsidiary Fortune Park Hotels Ltd for a 65-room business hotel (reported by DNA Money in June 2006).
Towards the year-end, it formed another partnership with a major international chain, Accor Hotels & Resorts, to manage two hotels under their Novotel and Grand Mercure brands. And now, with Starwood joining the bandwagon, HCC can expect at least five of the 18-odd hospitality projects to take off in the coming years.
A source said the promoters are in discussion with a host of hotel chains for management contracts. “Negotiations with Dubai-based hotel group Kingdom Hotel Investments are on for a possible tie-up for a few properties as well.”
