CHENNAI: MDMK leader Vaiko on Sunday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi accusing the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu of planning to cause "terrific" damage to his party.

In identical letters to Singh and Gandhi, Vaiko alleged that from "very reliable sources" it is learnt that the DMK president M Karunanidhi has allegedly "hatched" a conspiracy with his party's 'removed' leaders L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran, "to create problems to tarnish the image and credibility of MDMK".

"I understand through unshakeable sources that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi has hatched a plan to let loose hooliganism by hired goons in connivance with the police to disrupt our party meeting on December 25", he alleged.

Vaiko has convened a meeting of district secretaries, members of the high-level committee, political advisory committee and parliamentary board on Monday in the party headquarters here.

He said Ganesan and Ramachandran have been removed from their respective positions of Presidium chairman and Deputy General Secretary respectively, but not from the primary membership of the party.

"If they are aggrieved with regard to their suspension, they have the right to appeal to the General Secretary, as per the Constitution of the party", he said.

Earlier in the day Vaiko had said his party was cent per cent intact and nobody could destabilise it.

"I also understand that the Tamil Nadu government is fully gearing up the state police force to prevent our party cadres from coming near our party office", Vaiko alleged.

“MDMK is committed to non-violence and peace and has never nurtured, encouraged or indulged in any violence in the 13 years since the very inception of our party", he said.

He said "with all his sincerity", he was bringing the situation to the notice of the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi.

The MDMK has four members in the Lok Sabha. Apart from Ganesan and Ramachandran, the other two members C Krishnan and V Ravichandran have put their weight behind Vaiko, causing a vertical split in the party.

Meanwhile, Ganesan and Ramachandran have convened an 'urgent general council meeting' of the party at Salem on December 29.
