BHAGALPUR: The fingers of a Dalit girl were allegedly chopped off by a farmer for plucking spinach from his field in Bihar's Bhagalpur district.
The five fingers of the right hand of 10-year-old Khushbu Kumari were allegedly cut by Pankaj Rai at Bhavnathpur-Baijar village on Wednesday after he found her collecting spinach, the police said on Saturday.
The girl was allegedly assaulted by the farmer before her fingers were chopped off with a sickle.
Khushbu was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital.
A case has been registered with the Akbar Nagar police station by the victim's father Sukho Ram against the farmer, who is absconding, the police said.
