The BCCI will meet today in Jaipur to discuss the MPA issue

It is not just the Indian cricket team which will be busy from Friday. The mandarins of the Board of Control for Cricket in India too will have their hands full. The bouncers are going to be bowled not only in South Africa. Some are certain to be hurled in the boardroom too.

The biggest test yet will be for one Jagmohan Dalmiya. The former BCCI president, facing allegations of corruption and misuse of office, is facing an axe, literally. The Board has called a Special General Meeting to decide on his future after its disciplinary committee submitted its report on the charges against Dalmiya.

The former president, under suspension since April this year, is working overtime to get the SGM stayed but till Thursday evening, he had not managed that from the courts in Chennai and Kolkata. If he fails to get a stay, he is likely to have his suspension extended by the SGM in Jaipur on Saturday.

“So far we’ve not received any court order against the AGM,” said BCCI administrative in-charge Ratnakar Shetty. “As far as we’re concerned the AGM is on.”

The first of many meetings lined up for the next eight days will be a discussion on the Members Participation Agreement over which the BCCI had a long and bitter war of words with the International Cricket Council.

The ICC, which agreed to accommodate the BCCI’s concerns in the MPA, has sent a revised document. Like the previous one, the new MPA too is believed to be a lengthy one and the Board officials are to brainstorm whether the revised MPA has addressed their concerns or not. The revised MPA was sent by the ICC about 10 days ago. The meeting will be held in Jaipur on Friday.

That will be followed by meetings in Mumbai. On December 18 there will be meetings of the umpires committee and National Cricket Academy where the Board is expected to take some important decisions. The Boardroom sessions will culminate with a working committee meeting in Mumbai.
