CHENNAI: The Sify vs Yahoo legal battle over the alleged forgery of Sify identity cards by six Yahoo! employees to gain entry into the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in Mumbai last month entered a new phase on Wednesday when the Madras High Court granted interim transit bail to two top Yahoo executives, but instructed them to deposit their passports with the court.

After hearing arguments on the interim transit bail application  by Yahoo India managing director George Zacharias and content head Ajay Nambiar, the court asked the two to submit their passports with the court within a week.

They may move the Mumbai Sessions Court for an anticipatory bail after that. Both Zacharias and Nambiar are former employees of Sify, which was one of the official sponsors of LFW.

A Sify spokesperson confirmed that the transit bail has been granted. Nambiar said he is yet to get details of the high court directive and that only his company’s official spokesperson Arati Vedanta is entitled to speak.

Calls to Vedanta’s number went unanswered.  Sify filed the original complaint with the Marine Drive police in Mumbai on November 4 that six Yahoo employees had gained entry into LFW and shot pictures after showing “forged identity cards” of Sify. The Mumbai sessions court is hearing the case.
