NEW DELHI: Five members of a 'Dhoom' style biker-gang who allegedly robbed lakhs of rupees from several persons in the capital in the last seven months have been arrested here.

The gang had committed 24 robberies, most of them outside banks, in parts of the capital involving Rs 53 lakh, police said. The arrested, aged between 24 and 35, hail from Kanpur and Jalpaiguri.

According to police, they got information about the gang after the arrest of Rakesh Kumar at a security picket in Saraswati Vihar locality of North-West Delhi on Monday while riding a stolen motor-cycle.

During interrogation, he named Sintoo, also arrested, as his partner.

Investigations revealed that they were wanted in several cases of robberies in the capital.

Rakesh and Sintoo told police that members of the gang were hiding in rented houses in Ghaziabad.

The three others identified as Jogeshwar, Dinesh Chand and Manoj Kumar were also arrested.

According to police Rakesh and Sintoo operated on their own and jointly with the other three.

Four motor-cycles, one car and Rs 3.3 lakh were recovered.

The gang used to steal cash from two-wheelers parked outside banks and snatch bags from those who step out of the banks after withdrawing money.

Police said Rakesh's movements were picked up by CCTVs installed at banks while he roamed around looking for prospective victims.
