NEW DELHI: A retired Assistant Commandant of the BSF was on Tuesday seriously injured when he set himself on fire outside the Police Headquarters on the busy ITO junction in Central Delhi.
Shashi, a resident of DDA Flats in Uttam Nagar locality of West Delhi, suffered 90 per cent burn injuries and is admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital in a critical condition, police said.
Eye-witnesses told police that they saw a man on fire running towards the police headquarters and collapsing near its gate at around 1.30 p.m.
Forty-two-year-old Shashi had taken voluntary retirement from the force.
Though police said the reason behind the suicide attempt was not immediately known as he was unfit to make any statement, his family members said he was troubled because of a boundary dispute with his neighbour.
