A spate of crimes has been reported from Gurgaon and Noida

The National Capital Region (NCR), home to a number of multinationals, IT and BPO companies has never been so unsafe. A spate of crimes has been reported from the region, sending the corporate world into a tizzy.

The body count keeps on mounting. There have been 10 murders in Faridabad in the last week of October, and another 30 in Gurgaon. “The rising crime is an issue of concern,” says Anita Sharma, spokesperson, Honda Siel, an automobile manufacturing company located in Greater Noida. “Many of our employees, including women travel to Greater Noida at odd hours so I think a more intensive highway patrolling will be do a lot to instill a measure of confidence in them,” she says.

Another NCR town Gurgaon, which houses an assortment of multinationals like beverage giants coke, Pepsi, BPOs like Daksh, American Express and a number of automobile companies has witnessed a rising crime graph in last couple of months.

While there are shootouts every other day, the recent maxi-cab killings have sent a shiver down the spine of the corporate world. A maxi-cab driver offered a lift to stranded passengers, looted them and after killing them, dumped their bodies in the gutter. “Today only ordinary passengers have been targeted, tomorrow our cars could waylaid,” says a software professional who takes NH 8 everyday to his office in Gurgaon.

So what is wrong with the security situation in NCR,? Police officials say efforts are on to tackle the rising crime graph. “We have ordered intensive patrolling on the NH8 linking Delhi to Gurgaon and going to Jaipur,” says Hanif Qureshi, SSP, Gurgaon.
