The captain of Italy's 1982 World Cup-winning team Dino Zoff was robbed by muggers in Rome as he and his wife returned home just after midnight, police said on Monday.

ROME: The captain of Italy's 1982 World Cup-winning team Dino Zoff was robbed by muggers in Rome as he and his wife returned home after midnight, police said on Monday.

Zoff, a former Juventus keeper, put up a fight and got a black eye trying to defend himself against four muggers.

The couple eventually gave their watches, cell phones and billfolds with about 1,000 euros inside.

The attack occurred as Zoff returned home after parking his car in a wealthy northern residential area.
