NEW DELHI: As an early-stage venture capital fund and incubator, Mentor Partners helps technology entrepreneurs in India prepare for the global marketplace.

The ten-month-old Bangalore-based venture capital firm already has five companies in the portfolio and intends to invest in another five start-ups. "We have zeroed in on two new companies and will close the deal in next couple of weeks. Investment in another three start-ups will be finalised by the end of this year or by early next year," says Ravi Narayan, managing director, Mentor Partners, who was here to attend the TiEcon meet.

Betting big on the Indian internet and mobile search companies and security and identity management space, Mentor Partners has already invested in companies like iLantus, BubbleMotion, UGenie, Atlantis Computing and atOnePlace.

The latest investment in atOnePlace, which is a real-estate online marketplace provides pan-India information and analysis of the real estate sector and also has the ability to transact purchases, rentals, and also take care of issues like property management. iLantus, BubbleMotion and Ugenie have already secured institutional financing.

Claiming expertise in turning unique technology ideas into companies, Mentor Partners targets primarily the start-ups where the value-proposition is intellectual property based, the idea is scalable to the global market level and the entrepreneur understands value creation.

"We prefer to work with people who understand that it is important to have a successful, professionally managed global venture rather than to be the top boss of the company he has formed," explains Narayan. According to him, there are 600 such new companies in some shape or form in the Indian marketplace, which can be actually picked up and mentored to go to the global market.
