KANPUR: Accusing the Samajwadi Party of deviating from its socialist ideology, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad has said it was on the downslide, as it had become a party of "dancers and singers".

"The Samajwadi Party has now became a party of dancers and singers and has nothing to do with the policies of Ram Manohar Lohia and other socialists leaders," the Union Railway Minister told reporters at Kanpur railway station while on his way to Patna from New Delhi on Tuesday night.

He said the party was on the downslide and even National Democratic Alliance Convenor George Fernandes would not be able to help SP chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav "because he has himself became a tired person".

He refused to comment of the corruption charges relating to the Barak missile deal against the former defence minister and said a case was already pending in court against Fernandes.
