A day after it was blamed for violating the Environment Protection Act, 1986, in proposing a rehabilitation scheme at Mankhurd, the MMRDA has decided pursue the matter.
Metropolitan Commissioner T Chandrashekhar has decided to reiterate by filing complaints accusing the shop owners of violating environment rules.
“Even if the land (at Mankhurd) falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), what right do the complainants have to decide whether we have violated environment rules? It was they who violated environment rules by illegally constructing structures on lands along the Mithi river. This land falls under CRZ-1, where no construction is permitted,” he said.
