DENPASAR (Indonesia): A court on Indonesia's resort island of Bali on Tuesday sentenced a high school computer teacher to eight years in prison for his role in the triple suicide bombings there last year.

Judge Nyoman Gede Wirya, presiding over the state court in Denpasar, said Abdul Aziz, 30, was guilty of the primary charges of "engaging or taking part in" an act of terrorism.

Aziz was found guilty of creating a website for slain Malaysian bombmaker Azahari Husin and his fugitive compatriot Noordin Mohammad Top, who are believed to have masterminded the attacks.

The website called for attacks against Westerners.     Aziz was also convicted of harboring Noordin, who has several times eluded capture by Indonesian police.

Twenty bystanders died at three Bali eateries targeted by suicide bombers in the attacks on October 1 last year. Nearly 150 people were wounded in the blasts.

Prosecutors had recommended a 10-year sentence for Aziz, who said "Allah is Great" as he was escorted from the courtroom following the verdict.

The attacks badly damaged tourism in Bali, one of the country's most popular destinations, and were a crime against humanity, Wirya told the court.

The panel of judges also concluded that the bombings were carried out by Al Qaeda-linked regional extremist network Jemaah Islamiyah, which has been blamed by many governments in the region for a spate of attacks in past years.

Aziz told the court he was not sure whether he would appeal the sentence.
