The  choreographer will judge the reality show ‘Superstars’

This is your first appearance on TV as a judge. How excited are you?

I am extremely excited. In fact, I had been approached earlier to judge shows. But I didn’t take those up because I don’t believe in being just a judge. You have to be a part of the entire process to be able to judge anybody. I am glad Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts (SDIPA) is also part of ‘Superstars’ (Sahara One).

It must be interesting to have Urmila Matondkar judge along with you.

Urmila is a thorough professional,  dedicated and hard working. Both of us will look at the overall personality of the contestants - their acting, performance, and attitude. Apart from our verdict, the results will also be determined by audience poll.

What is the contribution of SDIPA to the show?

My school will train the participants in dance and help choreograph the show. To be a complete performer, you have to be a good actor and a great dancer.

Is the format similar to the format of the international show ‘Stars in Their Eyes’?

Yes, the format is quite similar. In each episode, contestants compete by copying their favourite artist as faithfully as possible. They shouldn’t just sound like Shah Rukh Khan, they have to be like him.  We cannot have someone like SRK, Aamir Khan or Amitabh Bachchan ever. The aspirants should have the potential to be like them.

What is the prize money?

The winner will get Rs 1 crore and a film project with the channel.

Television is quite demanding. Are you ready to give that much  time?

When I have made a commitment I will ensure that I fulfil it. Moreover, I will do anything to promote my school. I love training people and it will be great to see young aspirants emerge as winners.
