NEW DELHI: Over six crore rupees have gone down the drain, thanks to the stalling of Parliament since monsoon session began on July 24.

In an unprecedented move, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has written to 500-odd MPs expressing anguish over the disruption of proceedings that waste precious time and seeking members’ cooperation in discussing people’s problems.

Ten days into the session, the Lok Sabha has already lost four days (roughly 33 hours) and the Rajya Sabha two days (16 hours) thanks to PMO mole, Natwar, Mumbai blasts, minimum support price to farmers etc.

The Speaker’s unprecedented letter (in English and Hindi) dispatched to the respective residences of MPs seem to have fallen on deaf ears guessing from the pandemonium both houses continue to witness.

Seeking cooperation of the members in running the House smoothly so that “people’s problems could be raised”, Chatterjee said he had tried to allow “all possible issues” to be raised for discussion subject to rules and time constraint.

The Speaker said, “we can show to our people that we are sincerely and devotedly making endeavours to solve problems of the people and of our great nation”.
