MUMBAI: Oil and petrochemicals major Reliance Industries shut down some plants at its 1000-acre Hazira facility on Tuesday, due to heavy rains and subsequent floods in the region.
The company said it has shut down some plants at its Hazira complex in view of the floods in the Tapi river, which is adjacent to the facility.
RIL informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that the decision was taken on safety concerns and the plants would remain closed till normalcy is restored.
The company's Hazira complex, near Surat, has naphtha cracker feeding downstream fibre intermediates, plastics and polyester plants and is spread over 1000 acres of land.
The company has invested over 3 billion dollars at its Hazira facility.
