Passengers of domestic and international flights had to wait for 30 minutes to two hours on Sunday, as flight operations were hit by poor visibility early in the day. However, no flights were cancelled.

Airport sources said most flights had to be diverted as visibility was down to 300 metres. Also, the main runway had to be shut between 3:15pm and 4:15pm for routine maintenance work.

Amit Wadhwa, a business analyst with a Mumbai-based media house, spent over four hours at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport, waiting for a Virgin Atlantic flight to London, which was reportedly late by two hours. The flight was diverted to Hyderabad. “Most flights are leaving over 30 minutes late. I hope my flight to Heathrow takes off soon,” he said.

Paras Mehta, a businessman travelling by a Jet Airways flight, said: “Things seem to be under control.”
