NEW DELHI: Under fire for its leader Jaswant Singh's verbal somersaults on the so-called mole in the Rao government, BJP on Monday termed as "inappropriate" the PMO's news briefing on the former External Affairs Minister's letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"It's inappropriate that (the Prime Minister's media advisor) Sanjaya Baru came out with a statement on behalf of Manmohan Singh, who should have instead given time to him (Jaswant Singh)," BJP's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters.

His comments came in the wake of the PMO's remarks that the BJP leader's letter did not identify any mole he has referred to in the Press and in his book.

"It's (the PMO's news briefing) not a good move in a democracy," Malhotra said.

The BJP leader, whose party has maintained distance from the row over Singh's mole theory, however, sought to defend the former External Affairs Minister from mounting attacks for his verbal somersaults, saying he has delivered all information he had to the Prime Minister.

In a separate reaction to the resolution on Lebanon, Malhotra said his party would take a final decision after studying the document.

He, however, condemned the Israeli strikes on civilians, but said there was no reason for his party to oppose attacks on Lebanon's military installations.

"Strikes on civilians are condemnable. We also condemn the Hizbollah," he said.

In another comment, Malhotra criticised calls by some Muslim MPs to transfer the probe into the Mumbai train bombings to the CBI, claiming it amounted to pressurising state police not to act against "jehadis".
